The Performers
The Gulf Coast Ethnic & Heritage Jazz Festival began it's Jazz Student Demonstration Workshop in the year 2000 to teach the history of jazz and familiarize the community with jazz music. The workshop grew into a summer camp in 2011 being organized by festival founder, Creola Ruffin and New Orleans musician and music instructor of the Louis Armstrong Jazz Camp, Kent Jordan. The camp became the Marcus Johnson Jazz Camp in 2015, named for Bay City Brass Band director, Marcus Johnson who passed away in 2014. The Marcus Johnson Jazz Camp is a two week camp, conducted the last two weeks of July. .Hosea London , renowned musician and teacher is the camp director. Mr. London is also director of the E.B. Coleman Orchestra and the Excelsior Band. Students range in age from 6 to seniors.
